Stop Procrastinating and Do This Instead

how to stop procrastinating

Next week at this time I'll be back in the cold and frosty weather of Cleveland, Ohio. Hard to believe it is almost Thanksgiving week!

Which means...

I have a ton of things to do this week.

I have Youtube videos to script and film....

Podcast episodes to record...

Legal work to do...

Emails to write...

The list is never-ending it seems.

And a lot of that is my fault.

I've managed my time poorly.

I strive to have at least 1-2 months worth of content scheduled ahead at any given time.

And by content, I mean Youtube videos, podcasts, blog posts, emails, etc.

But I don't.

And there are two big reasons why...

The first reason is that my to-do list is a mile long. Between legal work for clients, building out our new membership platform on Kajabi, launching a new podcast, and updating our legal template store, I just haven't had much time left to get ahead on content creation.

But if I'm being completely honest with myself, a lot of it is just plain old procrastination.

And it looks a lot like this...

You sit down at your desk to work on something, and for whatever reason, you end up...

  • checking email
  • reading the news
  • scanning facebook
  • messaging your spouse
  • falling asleep (yes, this has happened to me before)
  • forgetting what you sat down to do in the first place...

Can you relate?

Procrastination is a huge weight that is holding many of us back from achieving our goals.

But rather than look at procrastination as a negative, what if we flip it around and look at procrastination a little bit differently.

Maybe procrastination is the natural way for our mind to tell us that we have things on our "to-do" list that we should not be doing.

Right now I'm reading "Who Not How" by Dan Sullivan.

In this book, Dan proposes that when we procrastinate, it is because we have things to do that are beyond our "scope of genius". They are things that we don't want to do, don't know how to do, or even though we could do them, we aren't very good at doing them.

In other words, instead of figuring out how to do more of these things, we need to be asking WHO we can enlist to help us do these things.

And that is exactly what I'm working on right now in my business.

I've already hired three people to help me to unload some of these content creation tasks from my to-do list. And in the coming months, I will be hiring even more people to push my business forward.

So the question I have for you today is not "how" to get more of the things on your list done, but rather "who" can help you get more of those things done so you can stop procrastinating and start moving forward with your goals?

Have a great Monday.

Let's do this...
